The Book of Revelation in the Bible is a book really interesting. Some people say that it is very hard to understand, other try and do their best to get something out of it, and some simply avoid it entirely.
However, the Prophet Joseph Smith said that “The Book of Revelation is one of the plainest books God ever caused to be written”.
I have been reading a book about the Book of Revelation, by Mick Smith and I have found many interesting insights. For example, I have always struggled a little bit with all the numbers and the symbolism of those numbers.
Here is a useful guide to the use of symbols in the Book of Revelation:
The number 1 represents the beginning of all things
Three symbolizes the Godhead, the Trinity or Deity and perfection
The number 4 represents mankind and the geographic fullness of the earth.
Six is the number of incompleteness or imperfection.
7 as the sum of 3 (representing the Godhead) and 4 (representing mankind and geographical fulness) represents perfection and a full, complete joining together of all things in heaven and on the earth.
10 represents a completeness
12 represents the priesthood and completeness. every time the number 12 is multiplied by another number it symbolizes an increase in power and coventant responsibility.
144 is the product of the priesthood number (12) by itself and it represent the combination of the Aaronic and Melchisedec Priesthood, thereby representing all priesthood power.
666 is the number of the beast, a triple rendering of the imperfect 6, so representing the great imperfection inherent in evil.
1000 it is used to denote power, strength, and magnitude. Anytime it occurs, by itself or as a multiple of another number it symbolizes greatness and vastness.
